Lewis Green Line

First Generation

----------------------------------------

i. Gardner GREEN (John GREEN, Henry GREEN). The only match I can find for our Lewis that makes sense would be the 1800 Greenville County South Carolina census living very close to Gardner Green, both listed page 257 . The prior 1790 Greenville census for Gardner lists boys that are Lewis, Henry, William, Gardner Jr. (Mississippi Rolls?) and Richmond's ages. All likely brothers according to my research.

Second Generation

----------------------------------------

i. Lewis GREEN. Born abt.1775 and most likely in Surry NC. Lewis died in HamiltonCoIL on 28 Feb 1845, he was 70.

1800: Lewis is most likely living in Greenville County South Carolina; he would be 25 years old here. Census: 1 male 1-10, 1 male 16-26, 1 female 0-10 and 1 female 16-26.

Lewis married Katherine Nellie?. Born abt 1776. Katherine died in HamiltonCoIL prior to 1840. Kathrine's name source from court records & land indentures in 1816 Adair County Kentucky and later in Hamilton County Illinois. Lewis married Naomi Dees around 1830-1840. I haven't found marriage data on either of his wives yet.

1808: Land Patent on Crocus Creek, Adair KY.

1810: Adair County Kentucky census lists 1 male 0-10, 1 male 16-26, 1 female 0-10, 1 female 10-16 , 1 female 16-26. Lewis would have been 35 years old here. This is a census error for his age.

1818: White County Illinois census: Lists Lewis as 1 free white male 21 yr. and upward + 3 other white.

1820: White County Illinois census: 1 male 26-45 and 1 female 26-45.

1830: Hamilton County Illinois census: 1 male 50<60, 1 female 40<50, 1 female 50<60

1840: Hamilton County Illinois census: There were also two unknown girls 1(5-10) 1(10-15) living with them in the 1840 census. These girls may be his step-daughter's from his marriage to Mrs. Naomi Dees nee Booth.

Lewis and Katherine had the following children:

i. Daughter brn. SC (abt. 1799)

ii. William W brn. SC (1800-1856) William's marriage certificate to Mary Trammell

iii. Polly brn. SC/TN (1802-1837) Polly's marriage certificate to Charles Williams

The W comes from his son being a "jr" when Jr married and listed his mid init as W.

Moses B Walker was the administrator of Wm's estate at his death. At least Phillip, John W, and Lewis were still alive at the sale of his estate. Wm was buried in a walnut coffin that cost $8.25.

In 1854 Wm ordered a raised to walnut coffin costing $8.00 for his son.

Land listed on estate: SESW Sec 19 T6, R10, 40 ac.; SWSE, Sec 19, T6 R10, 40 ac.; SESE Sec 19 T6R10 40 ac. assessed at $800.

There was an Elizabeth Walker that was pd. for her services in helping with the sale & harvesting of their wheat and w/helping in "last illness". George Levi entered an invoice for burying Wm on March 25, burying Mary on Aug 31, hauling "doad meal" from mill twice. George's claim was disputed by "heir and admtr".

On 19 Sep 1822 when William W was 22, he married Mary Polly TRAMMELL2, daughter of Jarrett TRAMMELL Sr (1777-1850-1860) & Basheba YOUNG (1784-1850-1860), in Jarrett's house in HamiltonCoIL.4,5 Born on 3 May 1804 in IL. Polly GREEN. Born in 1800-1810 in NC. Polly died in 1837-1840, she was 37.

Her family info came from Lewis Green's will (see below). She must have died between Caleb being born in 1837 and the 1840 census as she's not in with Charles.

On 30 Apr 1818 when Polly was 18, she married Charles WILLIAMS, in WhiteCoIL.He was born in c1790 GA.

In the 1830 census he was listed as 30-40 (12/1830) and then in 1840 he was listed as 50-60 (10-1840), making him right at the 50 mark, putting his birthyear right at 1790.

i. Lillie.

5. William W GREEN Jr.2 Born in 1825 in IL. William W died in MadisonCoIL on 1 Mar 1854, he was 29. Census: 1850MadisonIL.

The mid init W is from his marriage license in Madison CoIL. This must be our Wm as Wm Sr. bought a coffin for "his son" in 1854. And Sarah is confirmed as his wife on the legal papers concerning his death and estate. John & Charity are confirmed by Nicholas' death. On his estate papers, it states "Wm Green heir John & Charity" recvd $3.90 for his estate.

On 24 Dec 1843 when William W was 18, he married Sarah Janie MERRY2, in MadisonCoIL.9 Born in 1827 in IL. Census: 1850MadisonIL.
